Safeguarding
Safeguarding across the Federation
Our Designated Safeguarding team is as follows:
- Mrs Harjette – Designated Safeguarding Lead across the Federation
- Mrs Johnson– Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead across the Federation
- Our nominated Safeguarding Governor is: Leanne Burns
Across the Federation, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our top priority. We are committed to creating a secure, supportive environment where children feel safe to learn and grow. We are a loving family where we encourage each other to flourish and we celebrate individuality and uniqueness.
All staff and governors undergo regular safeguarding training and follow clear procedures to identify and respond to any concerns. We also work closely with parents and carers to promote open communication and ensure every child is protected, respected, and valued.
To promote a safe environment for pupils, our selection and recruitment policy includes all checks on staff and regular volunteers’ suitability, including checks with the Disclosure and Barring Services, as recommended by Buckinghamshire County Council in line with current legislation.
Keeping our children safe is of paramount importance. We have robust systems in place and we listen to our children and take their concerns and worries seriously. It is every school’s statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, as outlined by the DFE in its publication Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE). This means that a school must protect children from maltreatment, prevent impairment of children’s health or development, ensure that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care and take action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
At both schools, we promote an ethos where children and adults feel confident about sharing their concerns about their own safety or the well-being of others. Occasions do arise where our concerns about a child require us to consult other agencies. Whilst we always aim to work in partnership with parents, there may be exceptions to this when concerns are raised for the protection of a child. The procedures we follow have been laid down by the Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Partnership and the Federation has adopted a Child Protection Policy in line with this. Please see link below
On very rare occasions Social Care, whilst undertaking an investigation under S47 of the Children Act 1989, may want to speak to a child without parents’ knowledge. This decision would be made by the police and social care, we are required to work collaboratively with partner agencies and would therefore cooperate with direction given. This would, however, always only be done in situations where a child might be at immediate risk of harm. To gain consent at this point may increase the level of risk to the child or cause evidence of a crime to be lost.
If you would like to know more about our procedures, please speak to our Acting Federation Headteacher Mrs Harjette or your child’s class teacher.
